Privacy Policy
Wallpapered is made by PankoByte. This policy explains what information the app handles and how we use it.
What the app does
Wallpapered is a wallpaper browser for Android. You can browse, search, save favorites, make your own wallpaper in the Create tab, and set wallpapers on your device. It works without an account. You do not need to sign in, or give us your name or email, to use it.
Information stored on your device
Some data stays on your phone and is not sent to PankoByte servers:
- Liked wallpapers — wallpaper IDs you mark as favorites.
- Cached catalog data — recently loaded wallpaper listings, so the app opens faster and still works offline.
- Cached images — thumbnails and full-size images kept in the app's cache folder so the same picture is not downloaded twice.
- Onboarding preferences — small flags such as whether you have already seen an in-app tip.
Likes, cached listings and preferences are stored locally using Android DataStore. Cached images sit in the app's own cache folder. If you enable Android backup for the app, your device may include liked wallpapers in its backup to your Google account, according to your device settings.
Information sent over the network
When you use Wallpapered, the app talks to our services to:
- Load wallpaper catalogs and search results from Cloud Firestore.
- Download image files from Google Cloud Storage over HTTPS.
- Record anonymous counts on a wallpaper when you like it, set it as your background, or save it to your gallery. These are running totals per wallpaper and are not linked to your identity.
Network requests may include standard technical data such as your IP address, device type, operating system version, and app version. We use this only to deliver the service and keep it secure.
Crash and error reporting
In release builds, Wallpapered uses Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and diagnostic logs when something goes wrong. A report may include device model, OS version, app version, the operation that failed, an internal error code, and sometimes the ID of the wallpaper involved. Crashlytics is turned off in debug builds. We use this information to fix bugs and keep the app stable. We do not use it to profile you, and we do not sell it.
What we do not collect
- No account registration or login.
- No access to your contacts, photos, location, or microphone.
- No advertising identifiers or ad tracking.
- No analytics product and no usage profiles.
- No sale of personal information.
Android permissions
Wallpapered requests only the permissions it needs:
- Internet — download wallpapers and catalog data.
- Network state — detect when you are offline and tell you why something will not load.
- Set wallpaper — apply a wallpaper you choose to your home or lock screen.
Saving a wallpaper to your gallery writes one image into Pictures/WallPapered through Android's own media store, which needs no storage permission and gives the app no access to the rest of your photos.
Third-party services
Wallpapered runs on Google Firebase and Google Cloud: Cloud Firestore holds the wallpaper catalog, Google Cloud Storage hosts the image files, and Firebase Crashlytics receives crash reports. See Google's Privacy Policy for how Google handles data.
Children's privacy
Wallpapered is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Data retention and deletion
Local data (likes, cached listings, cached images, preferences) remains on your device until you clear the app's storage or uninstall Wallpapered. Anonymous counts on our servers are kept for catalog statistics and are not tied to you. Crash reports are retained according to Firebase Crashlytics retention settings.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
